I'm meeting Jess and Tess at the Royal Mortar on Military Road to see some pub games in action. The Royal Mortar is a typical games pub, a large billiard, a darts area and a few flat screens and a fruit machine.
Jess is here to do research for his updated edition of the history of local pubs. The publican's daughter has an old photo of the pub, which never seemd to have had a hanging pub signs. It is on a corner, as most pubs, and that was compulsary, so that the officials could keep an easy eye on them and their local heri-do-wells.
